Monroe Scholarship
The Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association proudly announces the John Monroe Undergraduate Scholarship. John Monroe has dedicated his professional career to teaching about technology and providing service to the field of Technology and Engineering Education. Mr. Monroe is a Distinguished Technology Educator (DTE), a former technology education teacher in Suffolk City Public Schools, a past VTEEA and ITEEA President, and Consultant/Adjunct Professor, Old Dominion University. The scholarship is for a Virginia undergraduate student majoring in technology education teacher preparation. The $500.00 award is based upon interest in teaching, academic ability, financial need and faculty recommendations.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be member of the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association. (Membership may be enclosed with scholarship application).
- Applicant must not be a senior by application deadline.
- Applicant must be a current, full-time (as defined by the respective institution) undergraduate majoring in technology education teacher preparation in Virginia.
Application and Deadline
Send four copies of the application package postmarked by March 1. The application packet must consist of the following required items:
- Letter of transmittal that includes statement about personal interest in being a technology education teacher,
financial need and applicant’s address with day and night telephone numbers.
- Applicant’s resumé. Material should not exceed three pages and should identify current professional and college
activities and achievements.
- A photocopy of applicant’s college transcript. A grade point average of 2.5 or more (on a 4.0 scale) is required.
- Three faculty recommendations. Candidate must provide evidence of support for application by having his/her
professor’s write letters of recommendations.

The scholarship will be presented in August during the VTEEA Annual Conference. The winner is not required to attend the conference in order to receive the scholarship.
Schad Scholarship
The Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association proudly announces the Joseph A. Schad Undergraduate Scholarship, which is given in memory of Professor Schad, the charter VTEEA President, and a Program Leader at Virginia Tech. The scholarship is for a Virginia undergraduate student majoring in technology education teacher preparation. The $500.00 award is based upon interest in teaching, academic ability, financial need and faculty recommendations.
