VTEA President
A Letter from VTEA President

I hope you all have enjoyed a very happy and relaxing Winter Break and that you are refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the academic year.  I have just a few thoughts to share with you regarding past and future events within the VTEA, as well as an urgent matter upon us now.

Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to volunteer at the TSA booth at the State Fair.  This is a wonderful chance to share what we do with current and potential Technology students and their parents from all over the state.  It is always a very impressive set-up and attracts a lot of interested passers-by.  I want to thank all of the students, teachers, and VTEA members who assisted in manning the booth this past year; it was a success, as usual!

The summer conference is scheduled for August 4-6, 2004, so mark your calendars!  The conference planning committee is working hard to prepare for this event and have many exciting things planned, so far.  Any questions, ideas, or comments are welcome.

I would like to conclude with an urgent message regarding membership and participation in the VTEA.  Our membership is key to our survival as an association.  As your president, one of my challenges is to help increase membership and to keep you involved.  This is not an easy task; it is a job in which we all must take part.  It simply takes more than the board members to run this organization; it takes the commitment and dedication of Technology teachers across the state.  If board membership interests you, take a look at www.vtea.org to see what committee and office vacancies we have for the upcoming year.

Most importantly, we must ask ourselves, as Virginia Technology Education teachers, are we doing all we can to uplift and support our profession and each other?  For years, we have sought the legitimacy and recognition we deserve in the field of education.  Recent focus has been and will continue to be on the Standards for Technological Literacy in Technology Education.  Are we ready for the challenges ahead, once we have achieved that for which we have worked so hard?  Together we will be!  100% membership is the goal and our key to collectively strengthening our profession.  Have a voice!  Be energized!  If you are not an active member of VTEA, join today!

Have a great year!
Mohamad Barbarji
President, VTEA

It is our sincere hope that you find the information and links contained within these pages both enlightening and useful. Please return to them regularly.

The Webmaster team of Chris Kelly and Rob Huffman has done a terrific job building on the solid foundation provided by Dr. Walter Deal. They are interested in continuing to provide the kinds of information and resources you want and need. Please contact them with suggestions and ideas for improvements to this site.

As always, the VTEA is hard at work promoting the success and future of Technology Education in Virginia. Of course, we could use your help.
